Carolina Friends/Durham Early School.  Preschool and kindergarten school seeks three student assistants to observe, play, and build relationships with children ages three to six years old in a progressive Quaker school.  Student assistants will gain invaluable experiential knowledge of child development over a four-year span.  $10.00/hour.  6-12 hours/week.  Training provided.  Location: 404 Alexander Ave. Durham, NC  27705.  Contact:  Cesanne Berry, cberry@cfsnc.org, 286-7795. 

Communities in Schools of Durham.  Nontraditional high school and dropout prevention program seeks two interns for a technology coordinator position and a program coordinator/office assistant position. The technology coordinator will be responsible for putting together a comprehensive cutting edge initiative to increase volunteer and donor recruitment by improving the website and using other social networking websites and technologies. The program coordinator/office assistant will be responsible for updating the donor database, grant writing, updating the organization’s website, and organizing mailings to volunteers and donors.  Rate varies.  10-20 hours/week.  September-May 15.  Location: 411 W. Duke Homestead State Historic Site.  Organization preserving the history of tobacco farming and the Duke family seeks one intern to greet visitors and coordinate film showings and walking tours of the area. $9.00/hour. 12 hours/week, flexible hours. Durham Companions, Inc.  Youth mentoring organization seeks interns to research and measure the impact and results the mentoring service has with each particpant.  September 2008-June 2009.  10 hours/week, rates vary.  Location: 315 E. Youth Transitions Learning and Development Center.  Organization providing a private school, after school, summer camp, Saturday Academy, and tutoring programs seeks 10 interns to assist K-12th grade students with daily homework assignments.
